Yigit begins WBSS journey with IBF World title shot on October 27 in New Orleans

Anthony Yigit (21-0-1, 7 KOs) will begin his World Boxing Super Series journey in New Orleans as he challenges Ivan Baranchyk (18-0, 11 KOs) for the vacant IBF World Super Lightweight title at the U.N.O. Lakefront Arena on October 27

The 27 year-old from Stockholm is one of eight super lightweights signed up for the second season of the World Boxing Super Series, and will be battling the division's best fighters for the chance to win the tournament's coveted Muhammad Ali Trophy.

“I am looking forward to stepping into the ring again after almost a year of training hard and developing my skills,” says Yigit, who was named European Champion of the Year following a hugely successful 2017, which saw him win and twice retain the EBU belt.

The London 2012 Olympian now intends to emulate this success on the World stage as he looks to secure his first World title and a spot in the WBSS semi-finals.

“To fight in the World Boxing Super Series and challenge for the IBF World title is unreal," said the talented southpaw. "I'm so happy all those hours in the gym, the discipline outside the gym and all the blood, sweat and tears finally are giving results.

“I believe there couldn't have been a better time for me to fight on the World stage for my first World title and I can’t wait to show all the boxing fans that I belong there!”

Yigit can expect tough resistance in his first tournament test as he squares-off against the undefeated 25 year-old Miami-based Belarusian, known as 'The Beast'.

"If you step into the ring against Ivan Baranchyk, just know, you will never have an easy fight," he says. "I am a boxer with a warrior’s heart and mentality, and I will fight till the last drop of blood no matter what. I will not only defeat Anthony Yigit, it will be an execution. I am ready to fight and I will win this belt! I will show everyone that I am the best!"
