Svensson and Skoglund ready for Saturday night

Swedish title challengers Klara Svensson and Erik Skoglund both came face-to-face with their opponents for the first time at a final press conference in Malmö ahead of Saturday night’s championship fights at TAP1 in Copenhagen.

‘The Swedish Princess’ Klara Svensson (13-0, 5 KOs) will face Marie Riederer (15-1-1, 10 KOs) for the interim WBC World Light Welterweight title.

‘’I am well prepared,’’ said Svensson. ‘’I’ve been working hard in the gym and have had some great sparring. I feel stronger than ever and I am confident I will come out on top on Saturday night.’’

‘’This is a great opportunity for me,’’ said Riederer. ‘’Klara and me are very evenly matched so that will make for an exciting fight. It will all depend on who’s the best on the night.’’

Said promoter Kalle Sauerland: ‘’Both fighters have earned this shot at the interim world title and neither will want to let this opportunity slip away. I am expecting a close fight and one worthy of its world title status.’’

Light heavyweight hope Erik Skoglund (20-0, 11 KOs) will meet Italian Stefano Abatangelo (18-3-1, 6 KOs) on Saturday night. Skoglund’s European (EU) title will be on the line along with the IBF Intercontinental belt.

Abatangelo appeared in a confident mood and made clear his intention to dethrone the young Swede.‘’There is no doubt that it will be a tough fight,’’ said Abatanagelo. ‘’But we have worked hard in the gym and I believe I have the skills to win on Saturday night. I’m not here to make up the numbers, I am here to win.’’

"I'm glad that my opponent is here to win,’’ answered Skoglund. ‘’That makes this fights more exiting. If I win I could be in a position to fight living legend Bernard Hopkins so this is a great opportunity for me. But I'm not going to overlook my Abatangelo because anything can happen in boxing. But of course I'm confident that I ill win this one."

Promoter Kalle Sauerland believes victory for Skoglund will pave the way to bigger fighters including a dream showdown with living legend Bernard Hopkins. Said Sauerland: ‘’If Erik wins this fight he could face Hopkins within the next twelve months. We have the money to make it happen, we have the mouth to make it happen and Erik has the skills to make it happen. Let's see where Erik stands after Saturday night.’’

The Nordic Fight Night will be shown live on TV10. Tickets are available at http://www.billetnet.dk.
