Smaadal promises early knockout

Tim-Robin Lihaug (7-1, 5 KOs) and Simen Smaadal (8-0, 3 KOs) exchanged words at the final press conference in Copenhagen ahead of their domestic showdown on Saturday night. The super middleweight rivals looked as though they couldn’t wait to get in the ring and determine who is the best Norwegian fighter in their division.

‘’I’m expecting a tough fight,’’ said Smaadal. ‘’We are both here to win. Tim is a strong fighter but I am stronger. I don't think the fight will go the distance. I plan to knock Tim out.’’

Smaadal’s confidence is shared by his coach Andre Sollund who expects a routine victory for his fighter. ‘’We haven’t prepared anything special for this fight. Lihaug is just another opponent on the way to the top,’’ said Sollund.

Lihaug is backed by legendary Norwegian coach Ulf Johansen, who called into question Smaadal's ability to back up his threats. “Simen has to be confident, Tim is also very confident,’’ said Johansen. ‘’It will be a hard night. A very hard night. On the paper Simen might be the favourite. But I don’t think he has the real knockout power to back his words.“

Lihaug will rely on a game plan he and Johansen have devised to claim victory in the Danish capital. “I know Simen will be well prepared but so am I,’’ said Lihaug. ‘’It’s going to be a real exiting fight. However I have a great game plan and if I stick to this plan there is no way I will lose.''

Said promoter Kalle Sauerland: ‘’This is a 50/50 fight between two young hungry fighters. Both of them have a point to prove and neither will be willing to back down. The only prediction I can make is that it is going to be a great fight.''

WBC, WBA & WBO Female World Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus (25-0, 7 KOs) is also in action on September 13. The pound-for-pound queen takes on the IBF Champion Ivana Habazin (13-1, 5 KOs) in a historic unification fight.
