Smaadal has it all to prove on September 13

Norwegian super middleweight Simen Smaadal has it all to prove on September 13 when he faces domestic rival Tim-Robin Lihaug at TAP1 in Copenhagen.

Smaadal knows that victory in the Danish capital can pave the way to greater recognition, bigger fights and a professional contract with Europe’s top boxing promoter Team Sauerland.

‘’When people talk about boxing in Norway I want them to mention my name,’’ said the 25 year-old from Langhus. ‘’This is going to be a huge fight, there is going to be a lot of media attention and if I win it will open a lot of doors for me.

‘’I’ve wanted this fight for a long time. Now it has come I have the chance to prove that I am the best super middleweight in Norway and to show Team Sauerland that they should put their money on me.’’

Unbeaten in eight contests, Smaadal has had to juggle the demands of being a professional boxer with a full time job. ‘’It can be difficult,’’ admits ‘The North Sea Defender’. ‘’When your tired and your body aches it doesn’t help with your motivation. But then I think of the other guy, relaxing or lying in bed and I know all my hard work will pay off in the ring.’’

A win over Lihaug could allow Smaadal the opportunity to leave his day job and focus solely on the sport he loves. ‘’Boxing is in my blood,’’ said the determined young fighter. ‘’My father was a boxer, my uncle was a boxer and both my brothers are fighters. It is what I love and it is all I want to do!’’

WBC, WBA & WBO Female World Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus (25-0, 7 KOs) is also in action on September 13. The pound-for-pound queen takes on the IBF Champion Ivana Habazin (13-1, 5 KOs) in a historic unification fight.

Both fights are available to watch live and exclusive on Viasat/ Viaplay pay-per-view. Viasat television customers can order the fights by calling (+47) 815 22 055, non-Viasat customers and those wishing to watch online must register and order via Viaplay http://www.viaplay.no/nordicfightnight.
