HRGOVIĆ BLASTS OUT CORBIN ON AMERICAN DEBUT

Filip Hrgović (8-0, 6 KOs) scored a sensational first-round knockout win over Gregory Corbin (15-2, 9 KOs) at the MGM National Harbor in Washington to defend his WBC International Heavyweight title.

American fight fans got their first taste of ‘El Animal’ as the fast-rising Croatian star took just sixty seconds to blast out Corbin with a thunderous right hand, and further his claim to being one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.

“You did not have time to see the best of Filip Hrgović,” said the 26 year-old after his brutal stoppage of Corbin. “But this happens in boxing. It was the right punch at the right time, and I am happy to win this fight on my American debut.

“It was a great honor to fight in America and be a part of this great event. I hope that the American fans enjoyed the fight. I am now looking forward to bigger fights and tougher challenges that will come next. I always tell my promoter don’t ask me who to fight because I will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime!”

Promoter Nisse Sauerland was impressed with his fighter’s performance and believes there is much more to come from the Olympic Bronze Medallist.

“That was the perfect entrance into the American market for Filip,” said Sauerland. “After that performance, everyone will stand up and take notice, and believe me, there is still a lot more to come. Filip is the future of the heavyweight division. He is on his way to the top and I’m looking forward to the journey.”
